Men's Shelter Support Staff

Job Discription: To perform specific duties and activities on a particular shift (Morning, Day, Noon, Evening, Dinner, Night) for the staff of the Men’s Shelter of the Department of Residential Services of the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.

Position Type: Full Time

Responsibilities:
• Adhere to the policies and procedures of the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission.
• Submit to the Men’s Shelter Lead Supervisor as their direct supervisor and fulfill requests of the Men’s Shelter Manager and Director of Residential Services as needed.
• Alert the Men’s Shelter Lead Supervisor to any concerns during their shift.
• Complete any daily logs, reports and files requested while on shift.
• Maintain constant communication while on shift with Lead Supervisor and other departments as needed.
• Incorporate Biblical principles into interactions with clients and other staff that build positive and productive relationships.
• Maintain a loving and peaceful environment by exercising spiritual care over the staff and clients as needed.
• Assist all clients with basic needs while on their shift.
• Assist with all meals and snacks served on their shift.
• Model a Christ-like attitude fostering community living and peace.
• Acknowledge growth, discipline and use positive reinforcement with clients and staff.
• Hold clients and staff accountable for inappropriate behavior and enforce discipline procedures according to the Kalamazoo Gospel Mission’s policies.
• Perform simple yet effective first aid care in emergencies.
• Invest time in client’s lives that will encourage productivity both at the mission and in their future.
• Attend all team meetings required by Men’s Shelter, Department of Residential Services and mission-wide as requested to promote consistency and positive relationships.
• Cooperate with all Support Staff modeling a Men’s Shelter team that is unified and effective.
• Offer observations and suggestions to the Men’s Shelter Lead Supervisor that enhance ministry to discover new ways to best serve the clients and encourage their productivity.

Qualifications:

• High school diploma; some college or technical school helpful.
• Minimum of two years’ experience in auto sales.
• Solid understanding of basic auto sales and business operations.
• Sales certifications helpful

Requirement and Must Have Ability To:
• Serve with God’s unconditional love by consistentlyexpressing His grace and care.
• Share the gospel message openly and clearly.
• Model a spirit of teach ability to the staff andclients that promotes humility to always learn and mature.
• Support and implement wise decisions for staffand clients on their shift maintaining calm and peace.
• Provide stability for the Men’s Shelter staffand clients by firmly but lovingly offering guidance as needed.
• Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm andreceptive attitude toward all clients and staff.
• Lift at least twenty pounds with no medicalcomplications.

Food Service Manager

Job Discription: Responsible for weekly meal planning and preparation utilizing budget and donations: Support Food Service Director in: Accepting donations, provide receipts, and coordinate with local business and food banks to maximize consumption and minimize waste. Ensure all equipment is properly maintained and in working order. Train others in correct utilization. Operate all food services in compliance with established health and safety standards including The Serv-Safe, USDA and OSHA.

Position Type: Full Time

Responsibilities:
• Train volunteers and guests in proper safety and food handling procedures.Prepare and oversee meals.
• Accurately report daily meal count.
• Maintain inventory and storage of all consumables.
• Interface with program staff to facilitate guest’s completion of daily Christian Service Hours.
• Responsible to train, supervise/oversee residents and volunteers.
• Oversee the organization, maintenance and cleanliness of all Food Service equipment and storage areas under the direction of the Director of Food Service.

Qualifications:

• Two-year culinary arts degree preferred
• Serv-Safe certificate required
• Previous experience in kitchen operations/management

Retail Store Associate

Job Discription: Greet customers entering the store offering friendly customer service. Answer any questions, (i.e., where is the bathroom, store hours, pricing policies, etc.) Be knowledgeable to answer in a accurate professional manner. Receive payment by cash, credit card, or automatic debits cards. Organize, restock, and arrange display merchandise throughout store.

Position Type: Part Time

Responsibilities:
• Assist donors with unloading cars & carrying in donations. Provide receipts to donors and greet with polite and friendly demeanor.
• Sort, Collect and disburse, bag/box all donations brought in and prepare it for appropriate pricing and distribution out to the sales floor.
• Sort, clean, organize, and donations as they are brought in, discarding un-salable items while utilizing space allotted for separated merchandise.
• Assist other attendants in keeping area neat and clean at all times.

Qualifications:

• Must be Nicotine Free

Children's Ministry Support Staff

Job Discription: The Children's Ministry Support Staff position assists the Lead Supervisors within the Children's Ministry. The position works with children of all ages.

Position Type: Part Time

Responsibilities:
• As a member of staff, uphold, promote, and encourage, in word and deed, desired organizational culture and values; purposefully seek to establish and maintain a culture that is based on grace and affirms and advances KGM’s vision and purpose.
• Maintain a peaceful, ministry-focused atmosphere.
• Follow directions of the Children’s Ministry Lead Supervisors.
• Help prepare play and learning materials.
• Assist in supervising children's play and monitoring their physical safety.
• Help children with daily routines such as toileting, eating, and sleeping.
• Guide children's behavior and social/emotional development.
• Perform simple first aid in emergencies.
• Participate in recommended training programs.
• Help clean Children’s Ministry area.
• Assist with breakfast and snack.

Qualifications and Must Be Able To:

• Highly ethical with the ability to make smart, timely decisions.
• Share the gospel message openly and clearly.
• Relate well to both children and adults.
• Demonstrate an understanding, patient, warm and receptive attitude toward children.
• Lift 30 pounds.
• Sit on the floor to play with children.
• Have a personal relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ and a desire to serve Him.
• Be a consistent witness for Jesus Christ
• Exhibit spiritual maturity as defined by evangelical biblical standards and in accordance with the employee handbook.
• Have a heart of compassion and caring toward the homeless and hurting and a passion about ministering life transformation in an urban setting.
• Possess a love for children and teens.
• Demonstrates a courteous and Christ-like manner with internal and external partners
• Flexible, cooperative spirit
• Possess and promote a drug, nicotine free lifestyle.
